Wahoo SUMMIT

Wahoo SUMMIT finally introduces climbing features to a product

Custom Alerts was perhaps my biggest launch at Wahoo. I took it from concept to iteration after iteration, tested it ruthlessly with developers and QA, then launched it to the world.

Early Ideation

Problem

Wahoo had zero climbing features (competitors do and have for a while)

  • Huge push to have a similar feature, and a competitive one at that

SUMMIT: feature meant to fill in the gaps

  • Introducing users to concepts + patterns before launching the larger feature

  • Ideally a redesign of features they already see on-device

Objectives:

○ New colored gradient field

○ Add color to existing elevation chart

○ Add remaining elevation where applicable

Process

  1. Get animations squared away (time consuming!)

  2. Retro-fit onboarding screens for new specs/features/constraints of this device

  3. Handle map download experience for all users

    • Design HAPPY PATH. Handle any errors.

    • How much of the world can we install at the factory? Decision to be made later by PO.

Research

What do competitors do?

Not complicated, just time-intensive!

Animation process

  1. Export needed screens in Figma

  2. Overlay screens on hardware render

  3. Animate in Photoshop using Timelines

  4. Export animation as MP4.

  5. Compress MP4 using KEKA
